Fresh From the Farm: October 2020 Recap

Welkom Vrienden!

(welcome friends)

As porky the pig once said, “that’s all folks!”. It’s hard to believe that after months of anticipation, planting and preparationour u-pick-sunflower season has officially come to an end. Not going to lie, it’s definitely a bittersweet time at the farm. On one hand, we’re sad we won’t see your smiling faces every week, on the other we’re so excited to get back to our roots; growing tulips! Though we tend to move quickly, the craziness of this year has forced us to stop and reflect on a lot of things. Our family is ending this season so thankful and full of gratitude for everyone who spent part of their day with us this year. In our opinion, it was our best sunflower season yet, and that’s a testament to all of you. We can’t wait to do it all again next year!

U-Pick Sunflower Season Recap

When we started off this month, our sunflower season was already in full swing. With each passing week, we were able to see so many of you come to the farm and enjoy all it has to offer. Whether that was saying hello to our farm animals, getting a sweet treat from our bakery barn or taking pictures that Instagram was made for. As always, the star of the show was our flower fields. This year we planted more sunflowers than ever (millions!) as well as mixed wildflowers that included dahlias, gladiolus and lilies. With all the different colors available, many of you were able to create truly unique and stunning arrangements to take home or gift to others. Nothing makes us happier than seeing all our hard word leave the farm by the arm full

Thousands of Long-Lasting Memories

After a long day’s work, going home and seeing all the pictures you shared truly made us smile. So many of you took advantage of the beautiful flower backdrops and immersed yourself within the sunflowers. Popular photo spots included our new butterflies on the side of the theatre, our wooden clogs, and giant picture frames. Whether you hired a professional photographer or took family photos on your cellphone, we were still able to see the joy that radiated from each of your faces. Thank you so much for sharing them with us!

We always knew the farm was a special place and are so happy that others are starting to see it as well. This sunflower season we had more engagements than ever before. I mean, who could say no to forever when you’re surrounded by millions of sunflowers??? We’re honored that so many couples decided to create a long-lasting memory in a place that we created for just that!

So Now What?

Just because our sunflower season is over, that doesn’t mean we stopWe’re always thinking of new and exciting things to unveil and introduce while we have the time to do so. We have a few things in the works that we’re excited about and can’t wait to share with all of you. In the meantime, our team will be brainstorming and working hard to ensure our tulip season is bigger and better than ever before. Though right now it seems like April is so far away, we know it will be here before we know it!

.. It’s Tulip Time!

In case you didn’t know, there is a specific time you need to plant tulip bulbs depending on where you live in the United States. For New Jersey, you need to plant at the end of October when the temperature is below 48*FThat means, the minute our u-pick sunflower season came to an end, our tulip season began! In the last couple of days, the family has been hard at work preparing the fields for tulips. We began by tilling the sunflower fields to ensure we had a clean slate for planting. Once the fields were cleaned out, we began planting millions of tulip bulbs in preparation for our u-pick-tulip season. After a long winter’s nap, come springtime, the rainbow sea of tulips will start peeking their heads out and showing color... we can’t wait for you to see it in 2021!

To our extended family (our staff), our customers, and everyone who else helped make this year a success we thank you
